PhD and Post-Doctoral Positions available at UC San Diego in the Connected Health Program

The Center for Wireless Communications has started the Connected Health (CH) program to facilitate research, development and commercialization of technologies to enable remote and personalized healthcare solutions with the use of wireless sensors, data analytics, and novel computing and communication solutions. The PhD and Post-Doctoral positions will be involved with core projects in the CH program: 1) developing personalized health informatics and guidance to assist doctors and patients with actionable insight, and 2) developing cloud-edge architectures and lightweight machine learning algorithms to enable innovative personalized mobile health applications.

The Center for Wireless Communications has started the Connected Health (CH) program to facilitate research, development and commercialization of technologies to enable remote and personalized healthcare solutions with the use of wireless sensors, data analytics, and novel computing and communication solutions. The sponsors and partners of the program consist of Kaiser Permanente, UC San Diego Health, Samsung, Qualcomm and Teradata. 

The PhD and Post-Doctoral positions will be involved with core projects in the CH program: 1) developing personalized health informatics and guidance to assist doctors and patients with actionable insight, and 2) developing cloud-edge architectures and lightweight machine learning algorithms to enable innovative personalized mobile health applications. The positions will report to the Director of the Center for Wireless Communications, UC San Diego, and will collaborate with other faculty and PhD students involved with the CH projects. The positions are to be filled as soon as possible.

Qualifications:

  • MS/PhD in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or applied statistics
  • Experience with data science projects, preferably in the medical/healthcare domain
  • Experience with hands-on modeling skills and strong data analytics skills using R/Python/SAS
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and database structures (SQL databases and database querying languages)
  • High self motivation, commitment and flexibility as well as the ability to work in and contribute to a team

Preferred Skills:

  • Data visualization (e.g. ggplot and d3.js) and reporting techniques
  • NoSQL data environments and tools such as Hadoop and/or Spark preferred
