5G at 60 GHz sets data rate record at 2 Gbps at 300 m, 4 Gbps at 100 m

Keysight Technologies with the University of California San Diego have announced the longest bidirectional phased-array link in the 60 GHz band. At a link distance of 300 m, the 32-element array achieved a data rate of greater than 2 Gbps over all scan angles up to ±45 degrees.

Data rates were 4 Gbps at 100 m and 500 Mbps at 800 m over most scan angles. Initial tests by a leading wireless provider suggest the system can deliver content to eight homes at a time at up to 300 m.

Teradata launching new IoT analytics group

Analytics and marketing firm Teradata has revealed plans to build a global Internet of Things (IoT) analytics unit, based in India, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The unit will be responsible for researching and producing innovative ways to analyse an IoT system, building on the company’s current service lineup of analytic functions to make systems more efficient, less likely to fail, and cheaper for the end customer.

Boeing plugs ViaSat into new AH-64E Apache helicopters

Broadband services supplier ViaSat is to supply 90 of its Link 16 Small Tactical Terminals (STTs) to Boeing as it outfits a number of AH-64E Apache Guardian Attack helicopters for the US military.

The latest generation of a line that dates back to the 1980s, the AH-64E is one of the world’s most advanced multi-role combat helicopters and  – besides the US – serves in the militaries of a number of other countries worldwide, including India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.

The South Korea-based electronics giant announced on Monday a new "smart control remote" designed to work on all of your TV-connected devices.
