BiographyBill Lin holds a BS, a MS, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley. He is currently an Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, where he is actively involved with the Center for Wireless Communications (CWC), the Center for Networked Systems (CNS), and the California Institute for Telecommunicatons and Information Technology (CAL-IT2) in industry-driven research efforts. These research efforts enjoy strong participation from CWC, CNS and CAL-IT2 sponsoring companies. His current research interests include novel system and VLSI architectures for broadband wireless communications and high-speed networking applications. Prior to joining the faculty at UCSD, he was the head of the System Control and Communications Group at IMEC, Belgium. IMEC is the largest independent microelectronics and information technology research center in Europe. It is funded by European funding agencies in joint projects with major European telecom and semiconductor companies. At IMEC, he led a research team that worked on various aspects of VLSI architecture, system design methodologies, and circuit techniques for system-on-chip applications. He has also previously held positions at Hewlett Packard, Hughes Electronics, and Western Digital.
His research has led to over 100 journal and conference publications. He has received a number of publication awards, including the 1995 IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems Best Paper award, a Best Paper award at the 1987 ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conference, Distinguished Paper citations at the 1989 IFIP VLSI Conference and the 1990 IEEE International Conference on Computer-Aided Design, a Best Paper nomination at the 1994 ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conference, and a Best Paper nomination at the 1998 Conference on Design Automation and Test in Europe. He also holds 2 awarded patents. He has served on panels and given invited presentations at several major conferences, including the IEEE International Conference on Computer-Aided Design, the European Design and Test Conference, the ACM/IEEE International Workshop on Hardware-Software Co-design, the International ASIC Conference, and the Asian-Pacific Conference on Hardware Description Languages. He has served on program committees of a number of international conferences and workshops, including the ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conference and the European Design and Test Conference. |
