EDUCATION
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications,
University of Padua, Italy, Sept. 1994
(thesis: ``Multiple Access Techniques for Mobile Radio Systems'').
- Full-time graduate student within the Exchange Abdroad Program,
University of California, San Diego, Academic Year 1992-93.
- Laurea Degree (M.S. equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
(honors), University of Padua, Italy, July 1990
(thesis: ``Availability and Protection in Telecommunications Networks'').
RESEARCH INTERESTS
- Communications aspects of wireless systems, ranging from
the physical layer performance and channel characterization to the data-link
and network protocol performance, including multiple access schemes.
- Performance
evaluation of multiple access schemes in the presence of typical radio channel
effects such as multipath fading and shadowing.
- Proposal and performance
evaluation of a new technique for cellular
packet access in wireless network, called
CDPA (Capture-Division packetized access), based on a polling scheme
and on the radio capture effect.
- Modeling of channel errors and of their
effect on higher layers and characterization of the packet-level error
process based on widely used channel models (e.g., the Gilbert channel).
- Performance evaluation of ARQ schemes and of TCP in Markovian channels.
- Energy consumption of data transmission protocols and their performance
in an energy-constrained environment.
This research has resulted in a number of refereed publications (27
journal papers and 45 conference papers have been published or
accepted for publication so far), as well as a few manuscripts
currently under review. A complete list of publications is attached.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
