Biography


Walid Y. Ali-Ahmad, Ph.D. is an IEEE Fellow with over 25 years of technical and executive leadership in cellular and wireless RF systems engineering. He is currently Senior Principal RF System Architect at Apple, where he drives focused RF innovation initiatives within the broader next-generation cellular system architecture effort. Prior to Apple, Dr. Ali-Ahmad held senior leadership roles at Samsung Electronics as Vice President of RF Systems Engineering, where he led RF system architecture and commercial productization for 5G FR2 smartphone platforms, and at Qualcomm as Vice President of Technology, where he led RF system architecture for flagship and low-tier multi-mode cellular platforms, including Qualcomm's RF360 front end solution for LTE-Advanced. Earlier, he led 60-GHz wireless platform development at Meta (Facebook). At MediaTek, he led RF system architecture for multi-generation 3G and 4G cellular RFICs supporting China's value-tier mass smartphone markets. He previously served as Associate Professor at the American University of Beirut (2004 -2007), where he founded the RF circuits and systems program. Walid holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and has a long-standing connection to UCSD, having served as Senior Lecturer in the ECE Department teaching RF Communication Circuits and Systems (2016-2018). He holds multiple U.S. patents and is a former IEEE Distinguished Microwave Lecturer.
