Celebrating a Decade of Visionary Leadership: Honoring Professor Sujit Dey's Transformative Impact at UCSD's Center for Wireless Communications

LA JOLLA, CA – As the Center for Wireless Communications (CWC) at UC San Diego marks a significant milestone, the community comes together to celebrate and extend its deepest gratitude to Professor Sujit Dey for ten years of outstanding leadership as the center's Director. His tenure, which began in 2014, has been characterized by visionary foresight, a deep commitment to collaboration, and an unwavering dedication to shaping the future of wireless technology.

When Professor Dey took the helm of the CWC, the wireless landscape was on the cusp of a monumental shift. His leadership was instrumental in guiding the center beyond traditional mobile communications and into the multidisciplinary domains that define our connected world today. With remarkable foresight, he championed research initiatives in what were then emerging fields: 5G and beyond, the Internet of Things (IoT), connected and autonomous vehicles, and wearable and mobile health. Under his guidance, the CWC solidified its reputation not just as a powerhouse in communications theory, but as a critical hub for the applied technologies that will define the 21st century.

A central hallmark of Professor Dey’s tenure has been the strengthening of the bridge between academia and industry. Under Professor Dey's leadership, CWC member companies grew from 3 to 13, and 6 new faculty members joined CWC.
